Twitter boss Dick Costolo said on Monday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that the social networking site actually does make a profit. In the past it was always assumed that Twitter was making a loss.
“We earn money," said the CEO. To support this statement he showed figures on the use of Twitter: daily 130 million messages are sent through the network site, 40 percent of which comes from mobile devices.
Twitter users can post messages up to 140 characters and follow messages from other users. Twitter was founded in 2006 and has about 200 million registered members, however, it is unclear how many of them are actively using the service.
Just last week the internet service for short messages was valued by potential buyers at an amount of up to 10 billion U.S. dollars. Among others Facebook and Google would be out on a takeover.
